Where can I find information about how to apply using the Spanish services?
I completed my application online. Can I go to my local office to check on the status of my application?You don't need to go into an office to check the status of your application. If you applied for Social Security benefits, you can check the status of your application online. If you prefer, or if you are unable to check the status of your application online, you can call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.. Note, this is only available in English.

How long do you have to work on each page?There are time limits on each page. You will receive a warning after 25 minutes, but you can extend your time on that page. After the third warning, you must move to another page, or your time will run out and the information you entered on the last page will be lost. However information collected on previous pages will be retained.
What happens if the application shuts down for the day before you finish?To fully protect all possible benefits, you should at least complete the page where we ask for personal identification information for the person applying for benefits (e.g., name, Social Security number, date of birth, etc.).
If you choose to continue with the application and the system shuts down before you finish, only the information on the page you are working on will be lost.
I live in Puerto Rico. Can I complete an online application?

Do you have to mail in all your documents, before you complete your online application?No, in most cases, once your application is submitted electronically, you′re done. There are no forms to sign and usually no documentation is required. Social Security will process your application and contact you if any further information is needed.
I used to work in the United States but moved to a different country. Since I reside outside of the United States, can I apply online for my Social Security benefits?Yes, you can apply online.
I am a military veteran. Can I apply online for my Social Security retirement benefits?Yes, you can still apply online for your retirement benefits.
I′ve answered all the questions in application, but I don′t understand how to complete my application. How do I finalize my application?Just fill in the answers to the application questions and select the "Sign Now" button at the end to send us the application.
I submitted my online application, but changed my mind. How do I delete my application?The application cannot be deleted. You must contact the office that is processing your application and tell them that you no longer wish to apply for benefits. You can find the name and address of the appropriate office on the application page called What's Next, which you should have printed for your records.
What should I expect after I submit my online application?Once we receive your application, we will review it. We will contact you if we need more information or if we need to see your documents.
Is it possible to print a copy of my online application before I submit my application?No. At this time, you cannot print the entire application before you complete it. However, as you go through the application, you can print each page before you go to the next page.
What happens if my confirmation page doesn′t come up on my screen? What should I do?If you submitted an online application for benefits, but the last page of your application did not come up on your screen, please call us toll free at 1-800-772-1213. You can also contact your local Social Security office.
What days and hours can I apply online for my benefits?The online application is available to you seven days a week during the following hours (Eastern time):
- Monday-Friday: 5 a.m. until 1 a.m.
- Saturday: 5 a.m. until 11 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
- Holidays: 5 a.m. until 11 p.m.
Will I lose all my information on my application, if I stop to take a break?You don′t have to complete the application all in one sitting. If you need a break, you can stop working on the application and restart it again without losing any of the information you entered. Be sure to select the save and exit button before leaving the application.
I started my online application and received an application number. What do I do with an application number?The application number is used to restart your online application.
I made a mistake with my online application. How do I correct my application?If you have not submitted your application, you can select the "edit" button, located at the bottom of the application. If you have already submitted your application and need to make a correction, you can call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or you can visit your local office.
Will I be able to review the answers in my application before I hit submit?Yes, after you finish answering the questions, you will receive a summary of the information you entered. If you need to change something, select the Edit button and you will be able to make the change.
I tried to apply online, and received the following message, "problems with your application," and I can′t go any further in my application. What should I do?The message may have been displayed for several possible reasons:
- You entered your Social Security number or application number incorrectly.
- You started your online application but did not save it. If this is the case, a new application needs to be completed.
- A final decision on your application was made over four months ago. If this is the case,contact us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to speak to a representative.
I helped my grandmother complete her online application. Who has to complete the "sign here" information?It is important the claimant sign the application, not the person who is helping with the application.
What is the difference between an application number and a confirmation number?The application number can be used to restart your online application if you didn′t finish it. A confirmation number is a code specific to the application you filed. A confirmation number is proof that you filed an online application. Please make sure to put this number in a safe place. Social Security employees will never ask for your confirmation number.
Change Of Address
I receive Social Security benefits and recently moved. Can I change my address online?If you get Social Security benefits, you can go online to change your address or telephone number, among other things. For more information, visit: What You Can Do Online.

Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Costs
Is there a time limit to apply for the Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Plan program?You can apply any time, but you should apply as early as possible. To apply, visit Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs.
I heard about the Extra Help with Medicare Part D program. Where can I go to apply for this benefit?To apply online from socialsecurity.gov, go to the Medicare tab, and select "Get Extra Help with Medicare prescription drug plan costs." You will find additional information about how you might qualify, as well as a link to the Extra Help application.
If I know someone who may be eligible for the Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drugs program, can I help them complete the online application?Yes, you can help the person by completing an application for Extra Help on their behalf. Relatives, friends, attorneys, advocates, social workers and employees of government agencies are authorized to act on someone's behalf if they are chosen by that person to do so.
Can I apply for Medicare without applying for monthly cash benefits?Yes you can. Generally, we advise to apply for Medicare benefits three months before age 65. You should apply for Medicare even if you plan to continue working, or if you think you do not have enough work credits under Social Security, because the Medicare enrollment period rules are very strict. When can I sign up for Medicare?Generally, we advise people to apply for Medicare benefits 3 months before age 65. Remember, Medicare benefits can begin no earlier than age 65.
How can I sign up for Medicare?You can apply for Medicare online when you file for retirement. Or, you can apply for just Medicare if you do not wish to start receiving your retirement benefits. Go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov/applyonline/ or you can use the Retirement or Medicare tabs from socialsecurity.gov to find the applications.
My mom is thinking about retiring but only speaks Spanish. Do disabled children qualify for benefits?
There are two Social Security disability programs children can qualify for: 1) The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, and 2) The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program. Under both programs, the child must not be doing any substantial work and must have a medical condition that has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months or to result in death.
