Expenditures of the Aged Chartbook

This chartbook examines the spending patterns of the aged population (65 or older) using data from the Consumer Expenditure Survey Public-Use File. Many charts include detail for those aged 65–74 and those aged 75 or older, with comparative data for the near aged (55–64). The data cover total and per capita expenditures including expenditures for housing, food, health care, transportation, and travel. The 2010 edition also includes selected trends from 2002.

Income of Disabled-Worker Beneficiaries

This chartbook presents tabulations of individual and family income of Social Security disabled-worker beneficiaries. The data are from records in the Survey of Income and Program Participation that were linked to SSA administrative records to identify survey respondents who receive disabled-worker benefits.

This biennial companion to Income of the Population 55 or Older highlights selected data in charts and tables that are easy to understand. The charts focus on the receipt and shares of income from Social Security, pensions, assets, earnings, and public assistance, effectively illustrating the Social Security program's pivotal role in the economic security of the aged.
