1815.When is the annual report of earnings due?

The law requires that a report of earnings be filed with the Social Security Administration within 3 months and 15 days after the close of your taxable year. You may file a report by calling your local Social Security office or the 800 number, or, you may visit any office in person to file. If you do not file a report, we will accept the report of your earnings filed by your employer, i.e., your W-2 form as the report of your earnings, or the amount reported on your self-employment tax return to the IRS if you are self-employed.
