SSA is reporting 100% issuance for both employees and contractors as of December 2009. Ongoing efforts to re-issue and credential new employees and contracts continue, but we are fully compliant with the mandate for issuance.

SSA PIV Card Logical Access Integration

Reporting of OMB M-11-11 Implementation Status

SSA is currently working on logical access implementation; that is using the PIV smart card as the primary means for authenticating end users to SSA’s IT network as mandated in OMB M-11-11 and HSPD-12.

Our initial logical access roll-out is by policy only. To date, all SSA components are required to use the PIV credential. The only exception are a group of State employees (DDS) who access our systems. The roll-out for this organization is ongoing. We met the Agency's CAP goal of 75% for FY2013 and expect to meet the 85% goal for FY2014.

Next Major Milestone:
M11:11 Compliance

SSA has implemented limited logical access for VPN, Windows, and HSPD-12 issuer users. Full-scale deployment is expected in November 2012. Physical access is ongoing with 70% of Level III and IV facilities currently using the credential for verification and entrance to the building and secure rooms through turnstiles and card readers. Implementation projects continue to bring the Agency to 100% completion.
