Stronger Together is Social Security's vision for a vibrant, engaged, and impactful employee workforce. Employees are becoming more actively involved in advancing our agency's mission while removing barriers to excellent customer service at every turn.
Driving change and taking ownership
Since his confirmation, Commissioner Martin O'Malley has encouraged Social Security's employees nationwide to share ideas and insights for fostering a workplace that enhances employee experience and improves customer service. He modeled this commitment by visiting each region and by supporting employee engagement platforms including town halls, an internal employee survey tool, and more. We discussed three major challenges: wait times for our 800 number, processing times for disability determinations, and overpayments and underpayments.
To address these and other challenges, the Commissioner launched "SecurityStat," a performance measurement tool to help Social Security set goals, choose actions, and track progress in meeting these challenges. Find out more about our SecurityStat initiative.
Meet the Faces of Social Security
Employees offered ideas to address the agency's challenges, including 5,000 submissions and 40,000 votes on our survey tool that culminated in the Social Security Action Plan and its 27 initiatives. Subsequently, employees shared feedback on the plan's initiatives that will improve the technologies, processes, and more, to deliver the service our customers expect and deserve and help more people access benefits to which they are eligible.
Our employees are our driving force behind changes coming to Social Security. It comes from a deep commitment to the agency's mission. Learn about these ideas and why our employees serve, in this video playlist of one-minute videos.
Reasons to Believe in Social Security

These efforts will require important investments, including enactment of the President’s FY25 budget request for the Social Security Administration.
Our country is Stronger Together with Social Security
As the agency celebrates its 89th anniversary, it is important to remind Congress, the public, and all our stakeholders how our team makes the country stronger.
The President's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025 would be a big step in the right direction to restore Social Security staffing and customer service. But right now, the battle at hand is to meet the needs of the highest number of customers we've ever had with the lowest level of staffing we've been allowed in 25 years.
