Secure Messaging
Secure Messaging is an entire application with a suite of services that allows
registered users to exchange sensitive information and files through a user-friendly
interface that resembles a web-based email package.
Each registered user has access to the following four folders:
- Inbox - messages are delivered here
- Drafts - incomplete messages can be saved here for later retrieval and submission
- Pending - messages that are awaiting to be virus scanned would be placed here.
- Sent - a copy of each message that you send is saved here
- Blocked - submitted messages that contain viruses are not sent to the recipient(s);
instead they are held here
Secure Messages
A secure message consists of the following:
- Subject
- Importance - a flag indicating the urgency of this message: low, normal, or high
- Recipients - messages stay within the website and are not sent externally; thus
every recipient is a registered website user. Familiar "to" and "cc" email concepts
are used to identify recipients.
- Attachments - up to eight files
- Message body - each message (along with its attachments) is limited to 10MB
Message Expiration
Each secure message has an expiration date. Expired messages are permanently deleted
from the system regardless of the folder in which they reside. New messages expire after
20 days. Replies and forwarded messages inherit the expiration date from the original message.
Message Interaction
A copy of every secure message you send is kept in your Sent folder. In addition,
every secure message is configured to generate a "read receipt" for each recipient. Thus, when
a recipient reads a new secure message, the sender is automatically sent a "read receipt" (as
another secure message). Note that reading read-receipts (and other system generated messages)
does not result in more read receipts.
Navigation
Use the links in the left navigation bar to browse different folders and to
perform various actions. Beside each folder link is a count of the number of new (unread)
messages within that folder.
