How do I access my personal my Social Security account if I change or lose my cell phone, or don't want to enter my cell phone number at all?
For accounts created before September 18, 2021:
If you have access to your old cell phone number, you can sign in with your personal my Social Security username and password and update your contact information from the Security Settings screen.
If you no longer have access to your cell phone number, you can still sign in with your personal my Social Security username and password. When asked to confirm your phone number, select the option to change it. Then follow the simple steps. We will send you a letter with a code and instructions to help you complete the phone number reset.
For all accounts created on or after September 18, 2021, you need to sign in to either Login.gov or ID.me, depending on which was used to create your account, to update your contact information.
A phone is not required to create a Login.gov account.
