Please provide details about your work for your employer. We will ask you about possible self-employment later.
You can work while you receive Social Security retirement benefits. If you do, it could mean a higher benefit for you. That can be important to you later in life. It also could increase the future benefit amounts your family and/or survivors may receive.
- If you are under full retirement age for the whole year, we will deduct $1 in benefits for each $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2023, the limit will be $21,240.
- In the year you reach full retirement age, we will deduct $1 in benefits for each $3 you earn above a different limit, but only in the months before you reach full retirement age. For 2023, the limit will be $56,520.
- Starting with the month you reach full retirement age, you may receive your benefits with no limit on your earnings.
When you reach full retirement age, we will recompute your benefit amount to leave out the months when we reduced or withheld your benefits for excess earnings.
ALERT
If you work outside the United States, the rules about receiving benefits while you work are different.
