Medicaid is a state-run program that provides hospital and medical coverage for people with low income and little or no resources. Each state has its own rules about who is eligible and what is covered under Medicaid. Some states use a different name for the program.
Example: If you live in California, the program is called Medi-Cal instead of Medicaid.
Some people qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.
Medicaid does not pay money to you; instead, it sends payments directly to your health care providers. Depending on your state's rules, you may also be asked to pay a small part of the cost (co-payment) for some medical services.
If you are covered by Medicaid, answer "yes" to the question. If you aren't, answer "no.
If you are not sure and you want to find out more about Medicaid, go to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicaid page or check the Medicaid/Medicare program contact list at Benefits.gov before you answer this question.
