Operations in the Candler Building 1936-1960
Then STORING THE WAGE RECORDS In yesteryears, the Wage Record file contained the summary card and corresponding collated earnings cards. Each collating cycle, the cards were removed from file and merged with the lastest reported earnings information for each account until the end-of-year posting to the summary record was made. It took 6,250 punch card cabinets containing 60,000 items each to store this file on the fourth and fifth floors of the Candler Building. Now STORING THE EARNINGS RECORDS Today, the updated summary record for 138,000,000 people are contained on 823 reels of magnetic tape, 10 1/2" in diameter.
