William J. Driver

William Driver was born in Rochester, New York. He received a bachelor's degree from Niagara University in 1941, a law degree in 1952 and a master's in 1965 from George Washington University. Mr. Driver served as a lieutentant colonel in the U.S Army from 1941 to 1945. Following World War II he joined the Veteran's Administration as a management analyst, eventually becoming VA Administrator, a position he held from 1965 to 1969. From 1969 to 1978 he was president of the Manufacturing Chemists Association; then he practiced law in Washington before serving as Commissioner of Social Security from 1980 to 1981.
