The President Signs S. 475, the
“Juneteenth National Independence Day Act”

On June 17, 2021, the President signed S. 475,, Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which became Public Law 117-17. The bill previously passed the House on June 16, 2021 by a vote of 415-14 and the Senate on June 15, 2021 by unanimous consent. Senator Edward Markey introduced the bill on February 25, 2021.

S. 475 includes the following provision of interest to SSA:

Requires June 19 to be a legal public holiday.
