12th Annual Centenarian Celebration

Philadelphia Celebrates Hundreds of 100 Years-Young ResidentsPhiladelphia Centenarians

The City of Philadelphia and Mayor Michael Nutter paid tribute to Philadelphia residents aged 100 years or older at the 12th Annual Mayor’s Centenarian Celebration. The event brought the city’s Centenarians, friends and family together to enjoy lunch, music, singing and dancing with one centenarian serenading the group with an Italian love song.

“There are very few centenarian celebrations of this magnitude, in which a city recognizes the achievements and longevity of its residents, and so we feel privileged to have the opportunity to honor this distinguished group,” said Mayor Nutter. “These amazing residents, including Anna Henderson who is among the oldest people in the world, have worked and raised families in Philadelphia, witnessing firsthand the city’s growth and change through a unique perspective.”

With the cooperation of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Philadelphia Region, invitations from the Mayor were sent to over 450 Philadelphia centenarians. Terry Stradtman, Regional Commissioner for SSA’s Philadelphia Region, addressed the audience and shared in the cake cutting with the mayor and the oldest males and female Centenarians.
