Disabled Beneficiaries Receiving Social Security, SSI, or Both

Chart 12. Social Security and SSI beneficiaries aged 18–64 receiving benefits on the basis of disability, December 2012

In December 2012, about 12.7 million people aged 18–64 received benefits on the basis of disability. Sixty-two percent (7.9 million) received benefits from the Social Security program only, 27 percent (3.5 million) received benefits from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program only, and 11 percent (1.4 million) received benefits from both programs.
