Disabled Beneficiaries Receiving Social Security, SSI, or Both

Chart 12. Social Security and SSI beneficiaries aged 18–64 receiving benefits on the basis of disability, December 2023

In December 2023, about 10.6 million people aged 18–64 received benefits on the basis of disability. Sixty-two percent (6.6 million) received benefits from the Social Security program only, 29 percent (3.1 million) received benefits from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program only, and 9 percent (0.9 million) received benefits from both programs concurrently.
