The original version of this report contained errors in Tables 5.H1 and 5.H2 for “Disabled-worker families” comprising a worker, wife, and either 1 child or 2 or more children. In Table 5.H1, some values for 2004 through 2015 were incorrect. In Table 5.H2, all values for these subgroups were incorrect. The corrected values now appear in this report.
The original version of this report contained errors in Table 3.C4. The 2015 value in the “Consumer Price Index” column was rounded, unlike the other values in the column. The unrounded value now appears in this report.
The original version of this report contained errors in Table 7.A8, Table 7.B9, and Table 7.E2. Data on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) awards for 2015 omitted awards to recipients with “unknown” state of residence. That omission also affected several data highlights in the SSI Program Trends portion of the Highlights and Trends section. The correct data now appear in this report.
We are aware of a methodological flaw that resulted in some errors in state-level data on the number of self-employed workers who have Medicare Hospital Insurance (HI) taxable earnings, their taxable earnings amounts, and their HI contributions in Table 4.B12. Those errors likewise affected the state-level data in the “Total” columns. We are working toward improving the estimates but the raw data files that would enable us to do so are not yet available. At present, we advise users to interpret these data with caution.

The Supplement is a major resource for data on our nation's social insurance and welfare programs. The majority of the statistical tables present information about programs administered by the Social Security Administration—the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance program, known collectively as Social Security, and the Supplemental Security Income program. In addition, data are presented on social insurance programs, including workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, temporary disability insurance, Black Lung benefits, and veterans' benefits. The Supplement also includes program summaries and legislative histories that help users of the data understand these programs. Please note that additional disability tables and statistics can be found in the SSI Annual Statistical Report and the Annual Statistical Report on the Social Security Disability Insurance Program.
The Supplement has been published annually since 1940. Decisions affecting the future of Social Security are facilitated by the availability of relevant data over a long period. The data provide a base for research, policy analysis, and proposals for changing the programs. In addition to meeting the Social Security Administration's information needs, the Supplement strengthens the agency's ability to respond to requests for program data from congressional committees, government agencies at all levels, and the research community.
The Supplement is prepared by Social Security Administration staff from various components throughout the agency and by many individuals from other federal agencies. I would like to express my thanks to them for their contributions.
