New Applicant Survey (NAS)

Objective

The New Applicant Survey (NAS) will help us better understand Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applicants’ experiences, their use of services, and the pathways they take before and after application. Some of the topics on the survey will be used to determine: the decision to apply, if representation was used during the appeal process, application, appeals, and early program experience, discrimination, emotional support and life satisfaction, demographic information and income and benefits.

Status

NAS was awarded as a part of the Disability Research Surveys (DRS) contract in December 2021 and is expected to conclude in 2029. Currently we are preparing for pre-testing the survey instrument. We will publish additional information and data once available.
